Image Location : This was captured from across the Solent at Fort Victoria Country Park, Yarmouth, Isle of Wight.
The image is of Hurst Point Lighthouse and Hurst Castle @ sunset, they are built at the end of a long shingle spit at the west end of the Solent; it is at this narrowest point in the channel to guard the approaches to Southampton. This narrow entrance to the Solent with the ebb and flow of the tides creates really strong currents, putting would-be invaders at the fort's mercy.
This image was captured at sunset, about 7:15pm as the sun was just disappearing from view. I was using a Panasonic Lumix GX8 with a Lumix 100-300mm F/4.0-5.6 lens set to 300mm (equivalent to 600mm on a full frame camera). The camera was hand held and I used autofocus on the yacht. The camera was set to Aperture priority f/8 giving a 1/400th of a second exposure at ISO 200 with daylight white balance. The RAW processing and final adjustments were all done in Photoshop CC. |
