Image Location : Bembridge Windmill or Knowle Mill @ Bembridge, Isle of Wight.
Star trail over Bembridge Windmill - a preserved tower mill on the Isle of Wight. It is the only surviving windmill on the Isle of Wight and is one of the island's most iconic images. Built around 1700, it last operated in 1913 but still has most of its original machinery intact. It is now owned by the National Trust.
This image was captured just after 1am using a tripod-mounted Canon 5DmkIII camera and a Sigma 20mm F1.4 DG HSM Art lens and focused on infinity. The camera was set to Manual with a 30 second exposure at f/2.8, ISO 640 and daylight white balance. I captured over 90 images on continuous until the lens fogged up with condensation. In the base image the mill was light painted with a Lenser LED flashlight. StarStaX was used to combine the shots in ‘Comet’ mode. The RAW processing and final adjustments were all done in Photoshop CC.
