Tower Bridge & GLA Building

Location: Tower Bridge spans the River Thames in London. It is close to the Tower of London, which gives it its name. It has become an iconic symbol of London. The strange modern building on the right is the GLA (Greater London Authority) Building.

This image was captured about 8:30pm using a tripod-mounted Canon 5DmkII camera with a Canon TS-E 17mm f/4 L lens. I used Liveview and 10x magnification to manually focus on the near steps. The camera was set to manual exposure mode, f/16, ISO 200, and daylight white balance. I then captured a series of 11 exposures from 30 seconds all the way to 1/30th of a second in one-stop increments. The RAW processing, creating and saving the HDRI was all done in Photoshop CS/5. The HDRI was then opened and tone mapped in Photomatix Pro before the final clean-up, black and white conversion, toning, grain and enhancement work was done back in Photoshop.

The original HDRI sky was a poor colour because of the low clouds and tungsten city lights. After monochrome conversion and toning, I think it looks much better.
