Vicars’ Close

Location : Vicars’ Close, Wells, Somerset. It’s the oldest surviving residential street in Europe, dating to the mid-14th Century.

This image was captured early afternoon using a tripod-mounted Canon 5DmkII camera with Canon EF 24~70mm F/2.8L lens set at 34mm. I used Liveview and 10x magnification to manually focus on the cobble stones just in front of me. The camera was set to manual exposure mode, f/22, ISO 100, and daylight white balance. I then captured a series of 12 exposures from 4 seconds all the way to 1/500th of a second in one-stop increments. The RAW processing, creating and saving the HDRI was all done in Photoshop CS/5. The HDRI was then opened and tone mapped in Photomatix Pro before the final clean-up and enhancement work was done back in Photoshop.
