This week’s image is of the full Flower Moon rising over Carisbrooke Castle on the Isle of Wight. The full moon for the month of May is what you call the “Full Flower Moon”, also called the “Full Blessing Moon,” “The Corn Planting Moon,” and the “Bright Moon.” The first name is mostly due to the fact that flowers blossom and bloom in May. The second has its roots in corn planting just in time for harvesting. The third is because this full moon is known to be one of the brightest of the full moons.

English Heritage runs the quintessential romantic castle, Carisbrooke, at the very heart of the Isle of Wight's history. It’s an Elizabethan artillery fortress, a king's prison and a royal summer residence, all in one!

This image was captured at sunset with the full moon rising, using a Panasonic Lumix GH5 with a Lumix DG 35 - 100mm F/2.8 lens set to 64mm (equivalent to 128mm on a full frame camera). The camera was handheld and autofocused on the castle. The camera was set to Aperture priority f/5.6 giving a 1/125th of a second exposure at ISO 200 with daylight white balance. The RAW processing and final adjustments were all done in Photoshop CC.
