Location : The Gunwharf Quays firework spectacular next to Emirates Spinnaker Tower, Portsmouth, Hampshire.

This image was captured from across the Solent on Ryde Esplanade, Isle of Wight. It is 4.8 miles as the crow flies from the esplanade to Spinnaker Tower, so I needed the full reach of my 400mm telephoto lens. This year’s display was on Friday, 13th November at 7:15pm, and the wind was from the west which was good for the smoke but a bit strong as it was distorting the fireworks a little.

This image was captured using a tripod-mounted Canon 5DmkIII camera and a Canon EF100-400mm f/5.6 L lens set to 400mm and focused on infinity. The camera was set to Manual with a 3.2 second exposure at f/8, ISO 100 and daylight white balance. The RAW processing and final adjustments were all done in Photoshop CC.
