Location : Hurst Castle and Hurst Point Lighthouse which were captured from across the Solent at Fort Victoria Country Park, Yarmouth, Isle of Wight.
Hurst Castle was built at the end of a long shingle spit at the west end of the Solent; it is at the narrowest point in the channel to guard the approaches to Southampton. This narrow entrance to the Solent with the ebb and flow of the tides creates strong currents, putting would-be invaders at the fort's mercy.
This image was captured at sunset, about 7:00pm as the sun was just disappearing from view. I was using a Panasonic Lumix G7 with a Lumix G Vario 35-100/F2.8 lens set to 93mm (equivalent to 186mm on full frame). I used autofocus on the yacht. The camera was set to Aperture priority f/11 giving a 1/50th of a second exposure at ISO 200 with daylight white balance. The RAW processing and final adjustments were all done in Photoshop CC.
