Location : This is the Botallack Mine in Cornwall, right down near Land’s End.
If the image looks different to you, it is because it was captured at 2:00am in the middle of the night, and the scene is entirely lit by an almost full moon. There was no need for extensive colour correction since moonlight is just a reflection of sunlight, so this image was captured/processed as daylight white balanced. The waves were quite strong that night, but the very long shutter speed of just over 16 minutes smooths the wave motion to a nice blur.
It was late at night when I captured this image using a tripod-mounted Canon 5DmkIII camera and a Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5 L lens, no filters were used in capturing this image. I used Live View focusing at 10x on the mine using a powerful flashlight to through some light on it (light only used to focus). The camera was set to bulb exposure mode and the shutter locked open. I then set up my iPhone timer for 15 minutes and only closed the shutter after the timer had expired. The total exposure was 999 seconds at f/5.6, ISO 160 with daylight white balance. The RAW processing and final adjustments were all done in Photoshop CC.
