Black Nore Lighthouse

Location : Black Nore Lighthouse near Portishead, Somerset, at the edge of the Bristol Channel. The lighthouse is now decommissioned but was built because of the treacherous rocks and current in that part of the channel. This part of the coastline has the second highest tide fall in the world, sometimes in excess of 50 feet!

This image was captured about 7:30pm using a tripod-mounted Canon 5DmkII camera and a Canon EF 24~70mm F/2.8L lens set at 64mm. I used Liveview and 10x magnification to manually focus on the near rocks. The camera was set on bulb mode, f/22, ISO 100 and daylight white balance. A 10 stop neutral density filter was used which made it possible to do an exposure of 240 seconds. The RAW processing, editing, enhancement and saving of the image was all done in Photoshop CS/5.
