Charles Bridge - Fractalius Christmas version

Location : Charles Bridge (Karluv most) that crosses the Vltava river in Prague, Czech Republic. It presented a problem as it must be the busiest bridge in the world and I could not get a clean shot of it. I did go very early in the morning and stayed up late, but the problem was that the lights on all the lovely flood-lit buildings were turned off by 10pm and there were still swarms of people at that time. I tried multiple exposures, but the hordes of people still showed. Although this image has lots of digital noise, an exposure time of 32 minutes cleared most of the people!

This image was captured about 9:15pm using a tripod-mounted Canon 5DmkII camera and a Canon EF 24~70mm F/2.8L lens set at 50mm. I used Liveview and 10x magnifications to manually focus on the closest street light. The camera was set to manual exposure mode, f/18, ISO 100 and daylight white balance. I then fitted a ten-stop neutral density filter and exposed the image for a full 32 minutes. The RAW processing and final adjustments were all done in Photoshop CS/5. A small amount of cloning was done to clean up people trails of individuals who wore white and stayed in one spot too long.
