Light Painting

Location : Captured late one evening in Bristol under a highway bridge. It was shot for a MasterClass on light painting in issue 54 of PhotoPlus. I had the help of Ben conjuring the dome, Myk spinning the orb, Tony making sparks with wire wool, and John adding the green laser light.

This image was captured using a tripod-mounted Canon 5DmkII camera and a Canon EF TS-E24mm f/3.5L II lens. I manually focused using Live View on the dome tool. The camera was set to manual exposure mode, one exposure of ten seconds (dome) and two at thirty seconds (orb, sparks-wire wool, laser), f/22, ISO 100 and daylight white balance. This particular image is composed of 3 exposures, with Tony making sparks in two of them (each side). The RAW processing, compositing, final clean-up and enhancement work was all done in Photoshop Elements.
