Image Location : Cougars captured in an animal rescue park in central Costa Rica.
I really did not expect my first image post from Costa Rica to be of two cougars in an enclosure but I really like this image with its very limited colour pallet. It was a special trip, a lot of fun and a really great group of people to share it with.
The technology we use these days is simply amazing, these cougars were in the dark-backside of an enclosure, it's heavily overcast, raining and I’m shooting through a plastic window using an 800mm lens, hand held with stabilization at just 1/80th second with ISO 1600, try and do that a few years ago and get a picture- -not a chance!
This image was captured around midday, using a hand-held Panasonic Lumix G9 camera with a Leica DG 100 - 400mm F/4.0-6.3 lens set to 400mm (equivalent to 800mm on a full frame camera). The lens was focused on the cougars and the camera was set to aperture priority f/8 giving just a 1/80th of a second exposure at ISO 1600 with daylight white balance. The RAW processing and final adjustments were all done in Photoshop CC.
