Image Location : Appley Tower in Ryde, Isle of Wight.
One of the more distinctive landmarks on the Island is the imposing gothic-style “Appley Tower” which stands tall above the extensive sandy beaches at Ryde and Appley. It is all that remains of Appley Towers, a Tudor mansion which once stood in Ryde. In about 1875 Sir William Hutt had a folly built just above the beach in the form of a castle tower.
I have been experimenting with artistic methods to paint colour into my infrared images which come out of the camera monotone. In this particular technique, I am applying some real colours from the original scene onto the monochrome infrared image.
This image was captured at sunrise using an infrared modified Panasonic Lumix GX8 with a Lumix G Vario 14-42 F/3.5 II lens set to 24mm (equivalent to 48mm on full frame camera). The camera was mounted on a tripod and autofocus on the tower. The camera was set to Aperture Priority f/8 giving a 1/40th of a second exposure at ISO 200 with custom white balance. The RAW processing and final adjustments were done in Photoshop CC also using the Nik Color Efex Pro 4 & Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 plug-ins. |
