Image Location : Light painting under the moon @ Appley Tower near Ryde, Isle of Wight.
This Victorian folly built about 1875 is just above the sandy beach. The castle tower is circular, with battlements, a turret and an external stair. It has Gothic Revival tracery windows, and an oriel window facing the sea. It is now a local landmark situated in Appley Park.
I met photographer friends, Lesley Matravers and Martin Gallut for a spot of evening light-painting. Martin kindly spun the wool for me and I light-painted the tower and trees with a LED Lenser P14 torch in a second repeat exposure.
This image was captured from the beach about 7:30pm using a tripod-mounted Canon 5DmkIII camera and a Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5 L II lens manually focused on the tower. The camera was set to Manual with a 30 second exposure at f/8, ISO 400 and daylight white balance. The RAW processing and final adjustments were all done in Photoshop CC. This image is a double exposure blend for the sparks and the light paint. |
